28/10/2025: The Secretary to the Inspectorate of Government of Uganda Mrs. Rose N. Kafeero has urged EAAACA member countries to build strong systems to eliminate corruption in procurement, this was during the opening of the regional workshop to fast track UNCAC Implementation in East Africa on Public Procurement and Integrity Systems.

The workshop organized by UNODC in collaboration with EAAACA will support the implementation of effective measures to address bribery, fraud and undue influence in public procurement with a strong emphasis on strengthening the detection, investigation and prosecution of such practices. 

Mrs. Kafeero emphasized the workshop presents an important opportunity for EAAACA to reflect on practical measures that can enhance collaboration between procurement agencies and anti-procurement institutions.

Mr. Francesco Checchi, Team Lead, Africa Anti-Corruption Hub at UNODC, noted that the workshop is expected to among others generate concrete, measurable outcomes and working document which will be presented at the EAAACA General Assembly.

Mr. Edwin Muhumuza, Head of Africa, Open Contracting Partnership, presented how e-procurement systems can help in addressing bribery and fraud schemes in public procurement and how to develop them.

The Regional Platform to fast-track the implementation of UNCAC in Eastern Africa is a UNODC initiative bringing together 10 countries in Eastern Africa namely: Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
