Ig Hosts Commonwealth Review Meeting Of Heads Of Anti-Corruption Agencies In Africa



The Inspectorate of Government in collaboration with the Commonwealth hosted the 9th Commonwealth Africa Regional Meeting for Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies.

The five-day conference attracted heads of anti-corruption agencies from 19 African states under the Commonwealth.

The Conference under the theme “Preventing Corruption for Sustainable Development in Commonwealth Africa” was officially opened by H.E. President Yoweri Museveni at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo.

The Conference provided a unique platform for sharing emerging anti-corruption best practices and country innovations in the fight against corruption and the promotion of good governance in Commonwealth Africa.

The key aim of the meeting was to enhance south-south learning and the sharing of country, regional and international experiences, by Experts and Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in the Commonwealth Africa.

The meeting climaxed on 10th May 2019 with the reading of a communique.

The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Ms. Irene Mulyagonja, was unveiled as the new Chairperson of the Association of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa, deputized by the Chief Ombudsman of Rwanda, Mr. Anastase Murekezi.

The next Regional Conference of Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa will be held in Rwanda in 2020.

 

 

The Botswana delegate are leading the second plenary session of the afternoon at the #CorruptionFreeAfrica Conference. They will be talking about the innovative projects done in the fight against corruption. Some of the measures include:
1. Setting up the Anti-money Laundering strategies
2. Declaration of assets and liabilities 
3. Monitoring and evaluation framework which is implemented by the M&E Unit of the DCEC under the expansion to coordinate implementation of M&E across all sectors.
4. Corporate Integrity System which helps with the feasibility study on CIS
5. Persecution guided investigations from pre investigations, ongoing investigations and post investigation legal conferencing.

Presentation on Rwanda Experience in Public Procurement. Presenter: Anastase Murekezi, Rwanda Ombudsman The office of the Ombudsman has the power to address issues of injustice, and prevention and combating of corruption & promote integrity. 

 

DAY 3 : Winning the Fight Against Corruption for Sustainable Development: A Practitioner’s View and Way Forward. Presenter: HALAKHE D. WAQO, CBS, Former CEO Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Kenya. He has over 27 years of experience in Governance and International Development.
