The Eastern African Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (EAAACA) convened its 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM), 31st Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting and Anti-Corruption Conference in Nairobi, Kenya from 20 – 24 April, 2026. The Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network for Eastern Africa (ARINEA), the network for EAAACA also held its 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Steering Group Meeting, and Asset Recovery Workshop.
The meetings were convened under the theme, “Unmasking Beneficial Ownership in the Fight against Corruption and Recovery of Assets”. The theme highlights the critical link between transparency in beneficial ownership and the ability to trace, seize, and recover illicitly acquired assets.
Corruption thrives in an environment where anonymous corporate structures, weak oversight, and financial secrecy dominate. By unmasking the true owners behind these structures, anti-corruption authorities can dismantle networks of illicit financial flows, enhance investigations, and facilitate cross-border asset recovery. The planned joint meetings aim to strengthen regional collaboration in the fight against corruption, with a focus on strategic prevention and asset recovery. While enforcement remains important, there is growing recognition that sustainable anti-corruption outcomes in Eastern Africa require proactive, preventive, and coordinated regional approaches.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission of Kenya was the host for the meetings.
During the EAAACA 16TH AGM, a number of resolutions were formed, which included approving ZAECA as a new member of EAAACA.
